The Paraty Cultural Center is dedicated to preserving the city’s history and identity, and to hosting important cultural events. The 1754 townhouse is a classic example of 18th century architecture in Paraty, where many of the buildings are on Iphan’s (the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) register of historic buildings.
In 2003, following a complete restoration of the building, with design by architect Glauco Campello, the cultural center hosted the first edition of the Paraty International Literary Festival (Flip). It houses celebrations of the city’s cultural heritage, including ‘Festival of the Divine Holy Spirit’ and exhibitions and presentations by local artists. The center is also a meeting place for local residents.
Since its inauguration over ten years ago, over 550,000 visitors have attended over 400 events, such as Paraty em Foco International Photography Festival, more than 110 exhibitions, as well as numerous festivals, concerts and other cultural happenings at the cultural center.
