Futura Channel is a communications tool for social change, created by partners in the private and third sectors. On-air programming blends entertainment and practical, relevant information, while listeners on the ground are encouraged to become involved in programming and to integrate content from programming into their lives.
Futura has over 46 million regular viewers, including over 2,000 educators. Programming covers such topic as human rights, sustainability, health, culture, diversity, youth, entrepreneurship, social involvement and job training.
Futura works in partnership with a range of institutions, such as universities, non-governmental organizations, companies, governments and international agencies. Programming and outreach teams ensure that programming is educational and meaningful to the public, who are also encouraged to give input on relevant topics for TV and Internet programming and teaching materials. Futura works closely with young people, offering training in audiovisual techniques and involving them in production on a local level.
Over 440,000 educators have received training in the teaching methods developed by Futura. The Maleta Futura distributes content to be used across the country. The course is divided into units, covering such topics such as democracy, the environment, health, childhood and poverty: education and inequality, and incorporate programs from the Futura Channel, as well as original texts and content material created by qualified institutions. The Salas Futura (Futura Classrooms), established in partnership with social organizations, are spaces that provide access to educational TV programs and teaching kits, as well as promote dialogue and discussion among young people, educators and the community.
Since its creation in 1997, Futura has won a number of national and international awards like the Tech Museum of Innovation Tech Award, for innovative use of technology to solve some of humanity’s most urgent problems. In 2014, the documentary ‘De Volta’ was a finalist for the International Emmy Award, one of the most prestigious awards in TV worldwide.
